Iraola stays tight-lipped as Liverpool agree £120m deal for PSG winger Barcola
Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola for £120million, though Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola declined to comment on the 23-year-old winger until a medical is completed.
Liverpool have agreed a verbal deal worth £120million with Paris Saint-Germain for winger Bradley Barcola, seemingly securing their marquee signing of the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old Frenchman is set to move to Anfield once a medical is completed, with the transfer window closing on Tuesday.
Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola, speaking at a press conference on Thursday ahead of his side’s fixture against Liverpool, declined to be drawn on the impending arrival. “As you know, we are trying to sign in that position,” Iraola said. “We can’t talk about players who right now aren’t ours. But we are trying to improve and fill that position as we don’t have the numbers. I hope we have good news soon but we are still not there.”
The deal represents the conclusion of a prolonged pursuit by Liverpool, who have spent much of the summer chasing Barcola despite repeated resistance from PSG. The Ligue 1 club initially held out for around £145million, reflecting the winger’s importance to their squad, but the two clubs have since found common ground as the window deadline approaches.
The agreement remains conditional on Barcola passing a medical, which explains Iraola’s caution in confirming the transfer publicly. Should the formalities be completed, the £120million fee would make Barcola one of the most expensive signings in Liverpool’s history.
