Dembélé and Marquinhos injured for several weeks after PSG's victory over Barcelona

PSG won 4-2 against FC Barcelona in the Champions League but paid a heavy physical price: Ousmane Dembélé (left thigh) and Marquinhos (right thigh) will be sidelined for several weeks, in addition to Kvaratskhelia, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.

Paris Saint-Germain officially confirmed three significant injuries on Wednesday following their 4-2 victory against FC Barcelona in the Champions League. Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos both suffered muscle lesions to the thigh and will be unavailable for several weeks, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is ruled out for months after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.

In a statement released the day after the match, the Parisian club detailed the health status of its three players. Dembélé, substituted in the twentieth minute while holding the back of his left thigh, “will remain in care over the coming weeks,” according to PSG’s official terms. The same diagnosis applies to captain Marquinhos, injured in the right thigh and also forced to leave the pitch early. Kvaratskhelia, whose injury is the most serious, will undergo surgery in the coming days.

The triple absence deprives Luis Enrique of key players at a crucial moment in the season. This weekend, PSG faces Lyon, the current Ligue 1 leader on goal difference, before hosting Le Havre at the end of October and traveling to Villarreal for the fourth Champions League matchday in early November.

The Spanish coach has a large squad, but the replacements called upon to fill these absences will likely offer fewer guarantees than the three international players ruled out. Managing this demanding schedule, now stripped of its most reliable elements, will constitute PSG’s first real test of bench depth this season.
