Igor Paixao set to leave: OM close to selling Brazilian striker to Sunderland
According to Foot Mercato, Igor Paixao has reached a verbal agreement with Sunderland over contract terms. The two clubs still need to agree on financial details, with six days remaining before the transfer window closes.
Igor Paixao is close to leaving Olympique de Marseille. According to Foot Mercato, the Brazilian striker has reached a verbal agreement with Sunderland and has agreed with the English club on the terms of his future contract, with six days remaining before the transfer market closes.
The two clubs have not yet finalized the deal: their positions on the financial terms of the operation remain far apart, even though discussions are continuing. An agreement between the clubs is therefore necessary before the transfer is made official.
This potential departure is part of OM’s cost-cutting strategy this summer. The Marseille club must absolutely complete several sales by September 1st to meet the requirements of the DNCG and UEFA. No signings have yet been officially announced at Marseille, with the club having made its recruitment conditional on these prior departures.
Meanwhile, discussions are reportedly underway with Sporting CP for Mozambican winger Geny Catamo, suggesting a still very eventful transfer window for the Marseille side in the coming days.
