Hugh Jackman confirms talks to buy into Norwich City and rival Reynolds' Wrexham

Hugh Jackman has confirmed he is in active talks to buy into Norwich City, potentially making the Australian actor the latest Hollywood name to take a stake in an English football club.

Jackman, 57, whose mother was born in Norwich, told talkSPORT: “I’m very, very interested — and talking about it right now. Good on Ryan, you do your thing, I’m all about the Canaries.” He also offered a bold forecast for the season ahead: “My prediction is Norwich and Wrexham are getting promoted this year.”

The actor, best known for playing Wolverine across the X-Men franchise, is close friends with Ryan Reynolds, who co-purchased Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenney in 2021. Reynolds and McElhenney have since overseen three successive promotions, lifting the Welsh club from non-league football to the Championship between 2022 and 2025. Wrexham finished seventh last season, narrowly missing the play-offs on the final day.

Should Jackman complete a deal at Carrow Road, the two friends would find themselves on opposite sides of the Championship promotion race — a rivalry that carries a certain Hollywood symmetry given the pair starred together in last year’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. Jackman attended a Wrexham match alongside Reynolds in 2023.

The prospect of Jackman at Norwich also carries a note of personal regret. Speaking in 2011, he recalled declining an earlier invitation to invest in the club: “Sometimes I make big mistakes. I got a letter about a year ago saying, being such a huge Norwich City fan, would I like to be a celebrity investor? I said, ‘I think that’s a little stretched, I’ve been to Carrow Road once, my mum took me,’ so I decided not to invest. And since then they’re on a run, so what do I know?”

Reynolds and McElhenney’s success at Wrexham has accelerated celebrity interest across the EFL, and Jackman’s potential involvement at Norwich would represent the most high-profile example yet of that trend reaching the Championship. No deal has been formally announced.
