Henderson stretchered off with wrist injury during England's World Cup celebrations after 3-2 win over Mexico
Jordan Henderson was rushed to hospital after injuring his wrist during England's on-pitch celebrations following their 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Mexico at the 2026 World Cup. Manager Thomas Tuchel described it as "quite a serious injury" and said a procedure may be required.
Jordan Henderson was stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital after suffering a wrist injury during England’s post-match celebrations following their 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Mexico in Mexico City at the 2026 World Cup.
The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder, who had been an unused substitute in the match, fell awkwardly on the pitch immediately after the final whistle and was attended to by paramedics and team doctors, who administered oxygen before placing him on a stretcher.
England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed the severity of the situation in his post-match comments. “He injured his wrist, he’s gone to hospital — it’s quite a serious injury,” Tuchel said. “It doesn’t fit with the night. I don’t know if there will be a procedure.”
Henderson’s team-mates gathered around him as he received treatment on the field, casting a shadow over what had been a jubilant occasion. Captain Harry Kane played down initial concerns, saying: “Jordan just fell over there. I think he’s okay, just something to do with his arm.” Jude Bellingham was more cautious, adding: “He’s in a bit of bother, but the medical team have got everything under control. Everyone was there to support him and even that was a beautiful thing to see.”
The veteran midfielder has made only one appearance in England’s five tournament matches so far, coming off the bench against Panama. Whether he will be available for England’s quarter-final against Norway on Saturday, 11 July, now remains in serious doubt.
