Harlequins sign Zimbabwe winger Edward Sigauke after back-to-back Africa Cup titles

Harlequins have added Zimbabwe international winger Edward Sigauke to their squad in a late pre-season move, with the 12-cap flyer set to arrive at the Twickenham Stoop next week ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

Sigauke, a product of Lomagundi College, has scored eight tries in international rugby since making his Zimbabwe debut two years ago and was a key figure in the squad that claimed back-to-back Africa Cup titles. He also helped Emeris University to Varsity Shield glory in 2025, further underlining his form heading into the move.

Head coach Jason Gilmore confirmed the club had been monitoring Sigauke for some time before getting the deal over the line. “He’s got tremendous speed and footwork that makes him a real handful for any defence, and we believe he’s got all the raw tools to become a weapon for us out wide,” Gilmore said. “What excites us most is his potential — he’s still developing as a player, and we can’t wait to see how he grows within our environment.”

Sigauke becomes the fifth summer arrival at Quins, joining Harry Johnson-Holmes, George Furbank, James Dun, and Sampie Swiegers in signing for the club this off-season.

The winger said he had been won over by Gilmore’s vision for the team. “I’ve spent time speaking with Gilly and I’m really bought into the brand of rugby he wants to build — it’s ambitious, it’s exciting, and it’s a style that suits how I want to play,” Sigauke said. “Adding value to the jersey means a lot to me — it’s not just about my own performance, it’s about contributing to something bigger and helping the team achieve what we’re capable of.”

Regarded as one of the most exciting young wingers to emerge from Zimbabwean rugby in recent years, Sigauke arrives with a point to prove on the biggest club stage of his career.
