Erling Haaland surprised his entourage by sporting a very short military-style haircut when Manchester City hosted Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium for the opening day of the Premier League.
Hours before kick-off, the Norwegian striker unveiled his new look in a YouTube video, calling several personalities via video conference to show them the result. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s reaction was unequivocal: “What have you done? Did you lose a bet or something? Block me and delete my number!”
His teammate Jack Grealish was no kinder. “You look like you’re ten years old!” he told the striker. Noel Gallagher, a fervent Manchester City supporter, gave the Norwegian a few extra years while encouraging him: “You look like you’re 17. That’s good, change is good.”
Pep Guardiola, who left the Manchester City bench after ten seasons, concluded the series of reactions with a touch of self-deprecation. “No way! You’re lucky to have hair. I’d like to have some. I love it,” the Spanish manager quipped.
