Yamal shatters Mbappé's Champions League record before turning 20
Lamine Yamal scored his third Champions League goal this season against Aston Villa on Tuesday, bringing his total to 14 goals in the competition before age 20, surpassing Kylian Mbappé's previous record of 13.
Lamine Yamal scored his third Champions League goal this season against Aston Villa on Tuesday, opening the scoring in the 7th minute after a mistake by Joao Gomes on a back pass. The FC Barcelona winger has now reached 14 goals in the competition before turning 20 — an absolute record in the history of the competition.
The Catalan winger has erased Kylian Mbappé’s mark, who had reached 13 Champions League goals before his 20th birthday. Yamal won’t turn twenty until next July, leaving him several more months to extend the gap.
This milestone comes a week after a disappointing third-place finish at the 2026 Ballon d’Or, where he received only 13 first-place votes out of 100. In La Liga, the Spanish World Cup champion already has 10 goals and 7 assists this 2026-2027 season, confirming a consistency that goes beyond the status of a mere prodigy.
FC Barcelona still has four matches to play in this first phase of the Champions League: an away trip to Sabah in Azerbaijan, hosting Manchester City at Camp Nou, then matches against Sporting and Como in January 2027.
