Guardiola opens door to Manchester City return in different role
Two months after leaving Manchester City's bench, Pep Guardiola has not ruled out returning to the club behind the scenes if asked, while also leaving open the possibility of a future coaching position.
Pep Guardiola has not yet closed the chapter on Manchester City. Two months after stepping down as head coach of the Skyblues, the 55-year-old Spaniard has revealed he is considering a return to the club, but in a behind-the-scenes role.
In an interview with OKX’s YouTube channel, one of the club’s sponsors, Guardiola outlined his immediate future: “I will be behind the scenes. If Manchester City needs me, I will be there. Manchester City holds a special place in my life.”
However, any such return would remain conditional on an explicit request from the club. “If the club needs me, of course, I will discuss it with the new manager. It is not a problem,” he clarified, referring to Enzo Maresca, who succeeded him on the bench.
Guardiola also did not rule out a return to the sidelines in the longer term. “For now, I do not feel the need. But if one morning I wake up and feel that I am ready, that I need to manage a team, a staff, players, then I will return to it.”
These remarks come as Guardiola’s name circulates in Italy for the position of national team manager. The Catalan tactician has not publicly commented on this possibility, but his comments suggest that a break, at least temporarily, remains his preferred option.
