Genesio confirms OM will close transfer window without any signings
After losing 2-0 at Monaco on Sunday in Ligue 1 Matchday 2, Olympique de Marseille faces another setback: manager Bruno Genesio admitted in a press conference that no reinforcements will arrive before the summer transfer window closes.
After losing 2-0 at the Stade Louis-II during Ligue 1 Matchday 2, Olympique de Marseille suffered a second blow on Sunday evening: manager Bruno Genesio publicly admitted that the club would not sign anyone before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday.
“There will be no signings. We would certainly need three or four departures to perhaps get one or two recruits. So by Tuesday, it seems complicated to me,” the coach said in his post-match press conference. A candid admission that reflects the financial constraints weighing on the Phocaean club.
Genesio nevertheless emphasized internal cohesion, stating he was in complete agreement with sporting director Grégory Lorenzi and president Stéphane Richard. “I think we would need reinforcements,” he acknowledged. “But when you can’t, you can’t. There’s no point going in circles and speculating. If I’m told it’s not possible, I have to adapt. It will be up to us to optimize the squad 100 percent.”
The Marseille manager also expressed his impatience to see this period of uncertainty end. “I’m waiting to see how it will finish. I’m in constant contact with my sporting director and my president. We’re very happy it’s ending,” he added.
The defeat at Monaco highlighted the limitations of a restricted squad, and Genesio will have to work with this group as it stands for the rest of the season. OM, which has yet to win in the league, faces the rest of the calendar with particularly limited room for maneuver.
