Garnacho set for permanent Aston Villa move as loan conditions deemed 'easily achievable'
Alejandro Garnacho joined Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea this summer with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met. Reports now suggest those terms are 'easily achievable' and Villa staff have been briefed there is an 'extreme likelihood' the deal becomes permanent next summer.
Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Aston Villa looks increasingly settled, with reports indicating the conditions required to trigger a permanent transfer from Chelsea are ‘easily achievable’ and that Villa staff have been briefed an ‘extreme likelihood’ exists that the move will be made official next summer.
Chelsea signed Garnacho from Manchester United in the summer of 2025 for around £40 million, but after just one season at Stamford Bridge — in which he scored eight goals across 43 appearances — the club sanctioned a loan exit to Villa, with an obligation to make the deal permanent attached, subject to specific conditions being met.
According to The Athletic, some members of Villa’s staff were initially surprised by the club’s decision to pursue Garnacho, with the move described as an opportunistic response to a market opening rather than a long-planned target. The report notes the conditions required to activate the permanent clause are more straightforward than the 10-appearance threshold Harvey Elliott needed to fulfil during his loan spell at the club last season.
The Telegraph has added further detail, reporting that Garnacho used the recent international break to complete a ‘mini pre-season’ at Villa’s training ground, and that he has held one-on-one sessions with head coach Unai Emery to accelerate his integration into the squad.
Despite the positive noises around his long-term future at Villa Park, Garnacho has yet to make a significant impact on the pitch since arriving. The 22-year-old Argentina international has made only three appearances for Villa so far this season, all as a substitute in the Premier League, and was an unused substitute in both the Champions League fixture against Club Brugge and the Carabao Cup third-round tie against Coventry City.
Garnacho scored 26 goals in 144 appearances during his time at United, including 11 in his final season at Old Trafford, before the club opted to cash in during the 2025 summer window.
