Sky Sports adds live descriptive audio and subtitles to Premier League coverage for disabled fans
Sky Sports is introducing Live Descriptive Audio Commentary for blind and partially sighted viewers, plus Live Subtitles for deaf fans, with both features debuting during Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur on 10 October.
Sky Sports is rolling out two new accessibility features for its Premier League coverage, beginning with Manchester United’s home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 10 October.
The broadcaster is launching Live Descriptive Audio Commentary aimed at blind and partially sighted fans, providing in-depth verbal detail on player movement, positioning, referee signals, and substitutions. Alongside it, Live Subtitles will be available for deaf viewers and those with hearing loss.
Both features were developed with input from representative users, accessibility specialists, and the Royal National Institute of Blind People, and are being introduced in recognition of World Sight Day, the annual awareness event held on 8 October.
Following the United vs Spurs match, Live Descriptive Audio Commentary will be available for one match per day in each Premier League gameweek. Live Subtitles will have broader reach, covering all front-channel Premier League matches — approximately 210 games across the season.
