Free-agent Sancho weighs £10,000-a-week Getafe offer after United and Chelsea exits
Jadon Sancho, released by Manchester United this summer after loan stints at Chelsea and Aston Villa, has received a contract offer from La Liga side Getafe worth around £10,000 per week — a steep drop from the £250,000 he earned at Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho has been offered a contract by Getafe worth approximately £10,000 per week, according to the Telegraph, as the 26-year-old winger searches for a club following his release by Manchester United this summer. The deal would run until the end of the season, representing a dramatic reduction from the £250,000 per week Sancho is understood to have earned at Old Trafford.
Sancho has not ruled out a move to the La Liga side but is reported to want talks with head coach Jose Bordalas before making a decision. Getafe currently sit 15th in the Spanish top flight, having won just two of their opening nine fixtures.
The offer marks a stark fall from grace for a player United signed for £73 million in 2021. Sancho managed only three goals and three assists in his debut Premier League season, and six goals and three assists across 26 appearances in 2022/23, consistently falling short of the expectations that came with his fee.
A loan return to Borussia Dortmund in 2023/24 failed to revive his earlier Bundesliga form, and a subsequent season-long loan to Chelsea in 2024/25 proved equally underwhelming. The west London club held a £25 million obligation to sign him permanently but opted instead to pay a £5 million penalty and send him back to Manchester. Aston Villa then took him on loan for the following campaign, but showed no interest in a permanent deal at its conclusion.
With his United contract expiring this summer, Sancho has been without a club since. Getafe’s proposal is one of several reported approaches from clubs interested in the versatile attacker.
Bordalas, who joined Getafe in 2023, has had a turbulent start to the current season. The manager has publicly criticised the club’s leadership over what he describes as insufficient squad resources, and has previously raised doubts about his squad’s ability to compete across both La Liga and Conference League commitments. “I feel deceived because what has been promised year after year hasn’t been fulfilled,” Bordalas told the media. “I’m angry.”
Whether those circumstances at the club influence Sancho’s thinking on the offer remains to be seen.
