FFF prepares official tribute to Deschamps for 2027
Didier Deschamps, who stepped down as France manager after the 2026 World Cup, will be honoured by the French Football Federation. FFF president Philippe Diallo confirmed that a tribute is planned for 2027.
The French Football Federation is preparing a tribute to Didier Deschamps, whose tenure as manager ended following France’s third-place playoff defeat at the 2026 World Cup on 19 July. FFF president Philippe Diallo confirmed the project in Ouest-France.
“Is a tribute planned for Deschamps? I hope so,” Philippe Diallo said. “We need to find the right opportunity to do it. And given the calendar, we should think about 2027 to celebrate him as he deserves.”
Since the end of his time with the France team, the former manager has deliberately stayed out of the spotlight. He did not attend Zinédine Zidane’s first matches as his successor on the France bench, and was absent from Robert Pirès’ testimonial at Metz, which was nonetheless marked by the presence of many figures from France 98.
The tribute could take place in March 2027, if France qualifies for the Ligue des Nations quarter-finals and hosts at the Stade de France. In June, the calendar features either a Ligue des Nations Final Four — which France hopes to host in Lyon and Saint-Étienne — or the start of qualifying for the next international competition.
Meanwhile, Deschamps’ name continues to circulate for several managerial positions, notably at Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and the Turkish national team bench. He has so far given no public response to these rumours.
