Amorim targets Yoro and Zirkzee in £72m double raid on former club Man United
Ruben Amorim's AC Milan are pursuing Manchester United defender Leny Yoro and forward Joshua Zirkzee in a potential double deal worth up to £72m, with the Italian club hoping ties to agent Jorge Mendes smooth the path for Yoro's move next summer.
Ruben Amorim is plotting a double raid on his former club Manchester United, with AC Milan reportedly targeting both defender Leny Yoro and forward Joshua Zirkzee in deals that could total around £72m.
According to Calciomercato, Milan have identified Yoro as a priority target for next summer as Amorim looks to shore up a defence hit hard by injuries. Matteo Gabbia is already sidelined long-term, and Mario Gila has since joined him in the treatment room, leaving the Portuguese coach short of options at the back.
Yoro, 20, joined United from Lille for £52.2m in July 2024 but endured a difficult start to life in Manchester, suffering a pre-season foot injury that delayed his debut until December of that year. He went on to make 53 appearances under Amorim before the manager was dismissed in January 2026. Under interim boss Michael Carrick, Yoro has been used at both centre-back and right-back, though a costly error contributed to Bournemouth’s second goal in a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Milan are said to be ‘particularly interested’ and are hoping their relationship with Yoro’s agent Jorge Mendes can help push the deal through. The Serie A club are targeting a fee in the region of £33.4m to £42m, though Yoro is contracted at Old Trafford until 2029. United are reported to be open to selling if the Frenchman does not feature in their long-term plans.
In the shorter term, Milan are also monitoring Zirkzee, with United willing to accept around £30m for the Netherlands international. The 25-year-old forward appeared surplus to requirements during Carrick’s interim spell last season, failing to break 100 minutes of playing time, but has already exceeded that total early in the 2026/27 campaign. Injuries to Benjamin Sesko have brought Zirkzee off the bench more regularly, and the upturn in form earned him a recall to the Dutch national squad, where he scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Serbia earlier this month.
Despite that resurgence, United are still understood to want to move Zirkzee on, with a fee of around €35m (£30m) considered acceptable. Milan’s immediate defensive needs mean a centre-back remains the priority for the winter window, with Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae and Sporting CP’s Gonçalo Inácio currently leading their shortlist — but Amorim’s interest in both former charges suggests United could face a significant double departure before next summer is out.
