Fernandes reveals Rashford among first to arrive at Carrington after Barcelona return

Marcus Rashford is making his presence felt at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground long before most of his teammates, according to captain Bruno Fernandes, as the England forward bids to rebuild his career at Old Trafford under new head coach Michael Carrick.

Fernandes revealed that Rashford has become one of the first players through the doors each morning this season, alongside Diogo Dalot and summer signing Ben Sesko. “Normally, always Diogo [Dalot]. He’s always here first,” Fernandes said. “This season, also Rashy, and Ben [Sesko], are normally the ones that arrive early. Together with me.”

Rashford’s renewed commitment comes after a turbulent 12 months. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Barcelona but the La Liga club opted against signing him permanently, choosing to pursue Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon instead. That decision brought Rashford back to United, where Carrick has handed him a fresh start for the 2026/27 campaign.

Carrick has been openly impressed by what he has seen so far, speaking warmly about the forward after United’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah. “Really pleased with Marcus — really pleased with him, so many ways,” Carrick said. “I think it’s pretty obvious with his performances. He was a real threat on Sunday, unfortunate not to get a little bit more success, but he was a real threat.”

“He’s doing a lot of things really well and settled back in really quickly,” Carrick added. “It was nice to keep Marcus fresh for the weekend.”

While Rashford has yet to find the net regularly in the early weeks of the season, his work ethic and attitude appear to have won over the coaching staff. The United academy graduate will be looking to translate that positive momentum into a performance when the club face Manchester City in the Manchester derby this weekend.
