Everton sign Tyrique George from Chelsea in £18m deal with £24m potential
Everton have agreed a fee with Chelsea to sign 20-year-old winger Tyrique George for an initial £18m, rising to £24m with add-ons, after the England Under-21 international impressed David Moyes during a loan spell last season.
Everton have agreed a deal to sign Tyrique George from Chelsea for an initial £18m, with the fee potentially rising to £24m through add-ons, making the England Under-21 winger the club’s second summer signing.
George spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium, where he caught the eye of manager David Moyes despite making 10 of his 11 appearances as a substitute. That loan arrangement included a purchase option set at £25m, which Everton declined to trigger before negotiating a lower up-front fee directly with Chelsea.
The 20-year-old made clear his desire to join Everton permanently, and the Merseyside club moved to secure him ahead of the new season. He scored six goals in all competitions for Chelsea but managed only one Premier League start for the London club, where competition for wide positions remained fierce throughout his time there.
George becomes the latest academy graduate to leave Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea’s second notable sale of the summer following Marc Cucurella’s £47.5m move to Real Madrid. His arrival at Everton follows the signing of midfielder Hayden Hackney, as Moyes continues to reshape his squad.
