Bardella congratulates France in World Cup 2026 quarter-finals, users remind him of his attacks on Mbappé
After France's victory over Paraguay (1-0) in the 2026 World Cup round of 16, Jordan Bardella posted a congratulatory message on X. The post backfired as users pointed out his recent jabs at Kylian Mbappé.
Jordan Bardella congratulated France on X after their qualification for the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals, secured with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay. The National Rally president hailed “a victory in a tricky match”, but the message quickly sparked a wave of online criticism.
Nearly all comments under the post deemed the move lacking in credibility, and for good reason: just weeks earlier, Bardella had directly attacked Kylian Mbappé. “And I know what happens when Kylian Mbappé leaves PSG: the club wins the Champions League!”, he had written in May, in a jab aimed at the national team captain.
This outburst responded to statements made by Mbappé in Vanity Fair. The Real Madrid striker had declared: “I know what can happen to my country if these people take power”, targeting Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella without naming them explicitly.
The contrast between May’s criticism and July’s congratulations did not escape users, who massively reminded Bardella of his own words under his tweet of support for France.
