Dumfries joins Real Madrid for €20m as fourth summer signing
Real Madrid have officially confirmed the transfer of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan for approximately €20 million. The Dutch international has signed until 2030 and arrives to cover for the injured Dani Carvajal.
Real Madrid have officially confirmed their fourth summer signing with the arrival of Denzel Dumfries, a 30-year-old Dutch international right-back from Inter Milan. The Madrid club confirmed the deal in an official statement, specifying that the player will be tied to the club until 30 June 2030, for four seasons.
The transfer fee is estimated at €20 million. Dumfries arrives as a direct response to the serious injury of Dani Carvajal, which deprives manager José Mourinho of his regular starter on the right flank. The Dutchman will also have to contend with competition from Trent Alexander-Arnold to establish himself in the Real Madrid starting eleven.
Dumfries is the fourth reinforcement registered by Real Madrid this summer, following Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva. This series of signings illustrates the club’s desire to thoroughly rebuild its squad under the direction of Mourinho, appointed to the Real Madrid bench at the start of the transfer window.
Formed in the Netherlands, Dumfries joined Inter Milan in 2021 from PSV Eindhoven. He established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent right-backs, notably participating in the 2023 Ligue des Champions final lost to Manchester City. With the Dutch national team, he has over 50 caps and has taken part in recent major international competitions.
