Doski levels for Iraq against Spain with a stunning cross-shot in La Coruña
Iraq held their own against Spain at halftime of their friendly World Cup 2026 preparation match, thanks to a magnificent cross-shot from Merchas Doski that neutralized Ferran Torres's opening goal at Riazor stadium.
Iraq responded to Spain with a goal as unexpected as it was spectacular on Wednesday evening at Riazor stadium in La Coruña. At halftime of this friendly World Cup 2026 preparation match, the two teams found themselves level (1-1).
Ferran Torres, captain of the Roja, had opened the scoring shortly after the quarter-hour mark, giving Spain the expected logical advantage against an Iraqi side that appeared less well-equipped.
But shortly before the half-hour, Merchas Doski leveled the score with a gesture that stopped the match. Playing on the left wing, the Viktoria Plzeň player unleashed what looked like a cross but turned into an unstoppable shot, the curved trajectory leaving goalkeeper Joan Garcia with no chance. Whether intentional or not, the move was of rare precision and beauty.
