Paul Pogba took a stance on the Manchester City scandal from Singapore, where the former midfielder was attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend. Questioned by journalists, the 33-year-old player, currently without a club after his contract was terminated at Monaco, did not shy away from the controversy gripping England.

Manchester City was found guilty of 114 violations of Premier League regulations between 2009 and 2018. Heavy sanctions are expected, and according to The Athletic, they could extend to the annulment of certain titles won during the period in question.

“I have nothing to say, to be honest. I just hope it doesn’t affect the Premier League, and I hope we can recover two titles,” Pogba said, visibly torn between restraint and attachment to his former club.

The remark is not insignificant. During his years at Old Trafford, Pogba finished as runner-up in England twice behind City: at the end of the 2011-2012 and 2017-2018 seasons. If the Skyblues’ titles were to be annulled for these periods, Manchester United would be among the clubs likely to benefit — provided that the authorities decide to reallocate them, which remains an open question.

Despite a career slowed down — around fifteen matches partially played over nearly five years — Pogba says he wants to get his career back on track. His time in Singapore illustrates a maintained media presence, even away from the pitch.
