Piers Morgan calls Carragher a 'big baby' on live TV to reignite Ronaldo row
Piers Morgan revived his public feud with Jamie Carragher on his Football Uncensored show, mocking the former Liverpool defender over a past on-air snub from Cristiano Ronaldo after Carragher criticised Morgan's defence of the Portuguese star.
Piers Morgan reignited his public feud with Jamie Carragher on his Football Uncensored show, calling the former Liverpool defender a ‘big baby’ and linking his criticism of Ronaldo to a past on-air slight from the Portuguese star.
The row began last week when Carragher accused Morgan and Rio Ferdinand of being ‘embarrassing’ in their defence of Cristiano Ronaldo following Portugal’s early exit from Euro 2024, during which Ronaldo was seen walking off the pitch in tears. Morgan hit back on social media, dredging up Carragher’s past support for Luis Suarez during the Patrice Evra racial abuse case and his 2018 spitting incident, before taking the feud to television.
“Jamie Carragher and I had an interesting little spat at the weekend,” Morgan said on the show. “Carragher, as we might remember, got pied live on Sky by Ronaldo, who refused to even acknowledge his existence — which might be why he’s being such a big baby about it.”
Morgan’s co-host Simon Jordan was less than sympathetic to his colleague’s position. Explaining why Ronaldo had blanked Carragher, Jordan said it was because Carragher had made critical observations about the player. Jordan then turned his fire on Morgan himself, questioning the wisdom of the social media spat: “What are you, 12? You know the followers — half of them dislike you intensely and half of them like you.”
Jordan also took a pointed swipe at Morgan’s relationship with Ronaldo, joking: “Who do I know who’s got loads of followers? I know, Ronaldo, and I’ll be his best mate.” Morgan responded by asking whether Jordan was “cynically suggesting I exploit our friendship for followers.”
Carragher had responded to Morgan’s earlier social media posts, acknowledging that Liverpool’s squad were wrong to back Suarez and that he had personally apologised to Evra on television, an act that subsequently prompted the club to send Evra a formal letter of apology.
