Real Betis moved into third place in La Liga with a commanding 5-2 victory over Osasuna on Sunday 11 October, with Isco scoring in both halves to anchor a performance that leaves the Seville club five points behind leaders Barcelona.

Isco opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute, and Abde Ezzalzouli doubled the lead before half-time after Betis won possession high up the pitch and converted quickly on the counter. Diego Llorente extended the advantage three minutes after the break, but Osasuna responded sharply — Ante Budimir and Raúl García scoring in quick succession to make it 3-2 in the 56th minute and inject genuine tension into what had appeared a comfortable afternoon.

Isco settled Betis nerves by reacting to a loose ball in the penalty area and driving it into the net to restore the two-goal cushion. Substitute José Antonio Morante, introduced in the 90th minute, then added a fifth deep into stoppage time to seal the scoreline.

The result lifts Betis to 19 points from eight games, one ahead of Real Madrid in fourth. Their five-goal haul provided the weekend’s sharpest Spanish headline, with Isco’s brace central to a win that firmly establishes the club among La Liga’s early-season contenders.

Elsewhere across Europe, Freiburg went top of the Bundesliga on 13 points after a 2-1 win over Schalke, with Keisuke Goto scoring an 85th-minute winner despite Yuito Suzuki’s red card leaving the hosts to finish with ten men. In Serie A, Lazio joined Inter on 16 points at the summit after a 3-1 victory over Monza.

In other Spanish fixtures, Real Sociedad beat Deportivo La Coruña 3-2 at home, while Elche and Celta Vigo played out a goalless draw.
