Dion Dublin reveals he manages property portfolios for professional footballers using their own funds
Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin has disclosed he is building and managing property portfolios on behalf of professional footballers, with players handing him hundreds of thousands of pounds to invest — including in the Wrexham area.
Dion Dublin, the former Manchester United and Aston Villa striker turned television presenter, has revealed he is running a property investment service for professional footballers, sourcing and managing real estate on their behalf using substantial sums they provide directly.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Dublin explained that older players regularly approach him with significant capital, trusting him and his estate agent to put it to work. “I’m already doing it for some of the older players, without mentioning any names,” he said. “They come straight to me and my estate agent. ‘Dion, I’ve got a couple of hundred grand, can you do something for me?’”
Much of Dublin’s current activity is centred on North Wales, particularly around Wrexham, where the club’s rise through the English football pyramid — now at Championship level — has driven renewed interest in the local property market. “I’ve got a few of them houses in Wrexham now, which is a bit of a hot spot with all the attention around the football club,” he said. “What we then do is manage and maintain the properties and [the players] get a bit of passive income.”
Dublin, who has presented the BBC property series Homes Under the Hammer for several years, acknowledged the traditional appeal of footballer enclaves such as Knutsford, Wilmslow, and Alderley Edge in Cheshire, but urged buyers to consider neighbouring areas for better value. “Cheshire can be expensive but if you look at places on the outskirts like Congleton and other places just off the M6 they can be incredible as well, so you don’t have to go for the top end.”
His television work takes him to cities including Stoke, Walsall, Lincoln, and Grimsby, and Dublin said those trips have reinforced his view that undervalued opportunities exist across the country. “My advice is to try and find those places but most importantly find the place that works for you.”
On the broader question of where to invest, Dublin offered a straightforward geographic rule of thumb. “If you’re investing in property then you need to look anywhere north of London and Watford and you might have a chance to get a bit of value for your money. The further north you go, the more bargains you’re going to get.”
Dublin was speaking on behalf of property company Reviant.
