Didier Deschamps is Galatasaray’s priority in the event of Okan Buruk’s departure, Turkish journalist Bülent Timurlenk stated on Sports Digitale. The information comes just days after the Istanbul club’s heavy defeat at Trabzonspor (4-0), a result that reportedly reignited internal tensions surrounding the future of the Turkish manager.

According to Timurlenk, some of the board members at the Turkish champions were waiting for a slip-up from Buruk to launch a campaign for his removal. However, no dismissal decision has been officially made at this stage within the club’s board.

Deschamps, who left the French national team after fourteen years of service following the 2026 World Cup, has indicated he wants to continue his career on a bench. His name has already circulated in recent weeks in connection with Manchester United, Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe before Galatasaray was added to the list.

Pressure on Buruk is not coming solely from the league. Galatasaray also began their Ligue des Champions campaign with a 3-1 defeat away to Sporting. A second European setback could prove decisive for the manager’s future. In the Süper Lig, the club remains joint leaders for now, which tempers the urgency of a radical decision.

One major unknown remains: Deschamps himself. It is unclear whether the French manager would be tempted by his first experience in Turkish football, having never coached outside France and the national team.
