David Ginola leaves Canal Champions Club to become Premier League ambassador

David Ginola will no longer be the familiar face of Canal Champions Club this season. The encrypted channel announced Wednesday, during its sports conference in Issy-les-Moulineaux, that the former PSG winger (59) is now taking on a new role as global ambassador.

Until now an essential figure at European evenings alongside Hervé Mathoux, Samir Nasri, Laure Boulleau and Bertrand Latour, “El Magnifico” joins Robert Pirès in this new position. His official mission: “to contribute to the reach of Canal+ sports services across the globe”.

Sports director Thomas Sénécal outlined the scope of this repositioning in L’Équipe. “David Ginola becomes our Premier League ambassador internationally. He will be more present on the English championship,” he explained, before adding that he “may be called upon to participate in certain European evenings”. An open door that suggests Ginola could reappear on the Champions Club set for special occasions, particularly if PSG, Lens or Lille progress in the competition.

This announcement is part of a broader renewal of the channel’s sports coverage. The arrival of Medhi Benatia and former Morocco coach Walid Regragui among the consultants had already drawn attention earlier in the week. Ginola’s move to the Premier League, a competition where he shone at Newcastle and Tottenham in the 1990s, appears consistent with his image and his network across the Channel.
