The Portuguese Football Federation delivered its verdict on Monday in the Cristiano Ronaldo case: a €255 fine and a 30-day suspension for leaving the national team gathering on September 30. A minimal sanction that will have no impact on the rest of his international season.

Everything began during the UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Norway, when Ronaldo walked out of the squad, claiming that manager Jorge Jesus had disrespected him. The incident sent shockwaves through Portugal and beyond, fueling speculation about an early end to the striker’s international career at Al-Nassr.

Three weeks later, the disciplinary commission ruled by strictly applying the minimum penalty provided for in the regulations. In its statement, it found Ronaldo “guilty of committing the disciplinary offense provided for and sanctioned by the first paragraph of article 160 of the Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary regulations, in the context of a single incident and intentionally”.

With the suspension covering only October, CR7 is already eligible for the next international window. Portugal face Denmark on November 14, then Wales three days later in the UEFA Nations League. His presence remains, however, conditional on a call-up from Jorge Jesus — the same manager at the heart of the dispute — and Ronaldo’s acceptance to answer it.
