Canal Football Club draws 95,000 viewers on return, beaten by Ligue 1+

Despite a new studio set and the presence of Michel Platini, Canal Football Club attracted only 95,000 average viewers on Sunday evening, a figure lower than the 85,000 recorded by Le Club on Ligue 1+, which aired free-to-air.

Canal Football Club posted disappointing ratings for its Sunday return, drawing an average of 95,000 viewers on Canal+ plus 28,000 on Canal+ Foot, for a modest total despite two major assets: the inauguration of a new studio set installed in the lobby of the channel’s headquarters and the presence of Michel Platini, the subject of a documentary.

The setback is all the more striking as the show was beaten by « Le Club », the Ligue 1+ magazine hosted by Thibault Le Rol. Broadcast free-to-air ahead of the Monaco-Marseille clash, this rival programme drew an average of 85,000 viewers — a lower absolute figure, but achieved on a channel accessible for free, which makes the comparison unfavourable to CFC.

Stade 2 topped Sunday’s ratings and confirmed its dominance in the slot. The France 3 sports magazine drew an average of 1.41 million viewers according to Médiamétrie, or 8.8% audience share, well ahead of its specialist competitors.
