Bruno Genesio set to sign with Marseille to replace Habib Beye
Olympique de Marseille is close to finalizing the arrival of Bruno Genesio as its new head coach. A preliminary agreement has already been reached between the two parties, with only a few contractual details remaining to be settled.
Olympique de Marseille has found its future head coach. According to multiple sources, a preliminary agreement has been reached between the club and Bruno Genesio to succeed Habib Beye on the Marseille bench, with only a few contractual details left to finalize.
While other names had circulated in recent weeks — notably Christophe Galtier and Adi Hüttler — the former Lyon manager had always been the priority of Marseille’s leadership. Genesio himself reportedly declined approaches from Monaco and Paris FC to prioritize the Marseille option.
Journalist Bertrand Latour expressed support for this appointment. “The match between Genesio and Marseille appeals to me because he is a very good coach who has very often delivered results with the teams under his command,” he said. He also highlighted the manager’s ability to work with limited resources: “He will be capable, with less money than what has been allocated so far, of finding solutions to make Marseille successful.”
Latour also emphasized Genesio’s temperament as an asset in a Marseille context known for being demanding. “Genesio is not a flat line, he has character, which can appeal to Marseille fans, and he is more manageable than De Zerbi, who seemed to me too emotionally unstable,” he added. “Given these reasons, I think Bruno Genesio is a good solution.”
After a notable spell at Rennes, then leading the Lebanese national team and Brest, Genesio would thus return to the elite of French football with one of Europe’s most passionate clubs.
