AS Monaco crushed Olympique de Marseille 2-0 at Stade Louis-II on Sunday, August 30, taking sole first place in Ligue 1 after Matchday 2. Young German striker Paris Brunner was the standout performer, scoring twice in the 13th and 54th minutes to settle the contest against a toothless Marseille side throughout the evening.

Monaco is now the only team in the championship to have won both of its opening matches. Marseille, which topped the table after Matchday 1, has dropped to 8th place with three points.

Beyond the scoreline, the evening carries heavy consequences for Marseille. Three players left the pitch injured: Geoffrey Kondogbia, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Angel Gomes. These absences compound an already tense end to the transfer window, with potential departures still to manage for the Phocaean club.

On Monaco’s side, the collective led by Filipe Luis delivered a controlled performance. Vanderson made a crucial save on a close-range effort from Moumbagna late in the match, and goalkeeper Hradecky received a yellow card for time-wasting in added time. Monaco managed a comfortable victory that confirms its ambitions for this season.

The starting lineups were as follows. Monaco: Hradecky — Nazinho, Dier, Sané, Vanderson — Zakaria, Camara — Coulibaly, Golovin, Idumbo — Brunner. Marseille: De Lange — Emerson, Kondogbia, Egan-Riley, Weah — Timber, Höjbjerg — Abdelli, Gomes, Harit — Gouiri. The match was refereed by Willy Delajod.
