Bought for €22.5m, Moffi leaves Nice for Hamburg for just €2m
Three years after joining OGC Nice for €22.5 million, Terem Moffi is moving to HSV Hamburg for just €2 million plus €500,000 in bonuses. The Nigerian striker, unwanted since an assault last November, has signed a three-year contract in the Bundesliga.
Terem Moffi is leaving OGC Nice for HSV Hamburg in a transfer valued at €2 million plus €500,000 in bonuses, representing a loss of over €20 million for the Côte d’Azur club, who had signed him for €22.5 million in 2023.
The 27-year-old Nigerian striker is expected this Saturday to undergo his medical and sign a three-year contract with the Hamburg club, who finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season. His departure closes a particularly dark chapter: on November 30, Moffi and teammate Jérémie Boga were violently attacked by Nice supporters following a 1-3 defeat at Lorient. Insulted, spat upon and struck in the back and groin, the two strikers were placed on medical leave for six weeks before requesting contract termination and leaving the club during the winter transfer window.
Moffi was then loaned to FC Porto for the second half of the season, but failed to revive his career: 15 matches across all competitions, two goals, and a purchase option set at €8 million that the Portuguese club did not exercise. Boga fared better at Juventus, where his €5 million purchase option was activated.
In total, the Nigerian international scored 24 goals in 74 matches in a Nice shirt — a record deemed insufficient given his initial investment. Unwanted and with little market interest, he joins Hamburg, where Warmed Omari, Bilal Nadir, Albert Gronbæk and Martin Adeline also play.
