Bonfim misses weight by 7.5 pounds for third time in UFC Vegas 122 disaster

Ismael Bonfim produced his worst weigh-in yet at Friday’s official UFC Vegas 122 weigh-ins, tipping the scales at 163.5 pounds — a staggering 7.5 pounds over the 156-pound non-title lightweight limit for his scheduled bout against Francisco Prado at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

It is the third time Bonfim has missed weight during his UFC tenure. He previously came in five pounds heavy for a November 2025 fight against Chris Padilla, and 3.5 pounds over for a November 2023 contest against Vinc Pichel — a bout that was subsequently rescheduled. After the Padilla miss, Bonfim told MMA Fighting that he had “finally got serious” about his diet, a resolution that has clearly not held.

Prado made weight without issue at 155 pounds. Whether the fight will proceed as a catchweight, and what percentage of Bonfim’s purse will be withheld as a financial penalty, had not been confirmed at the time of the weigh-ins.

Bonfim was not alone in failing the scales. Ketlen Souza came in at 117 pounds, one pound over the strawweight limit ahead of her bout with Loopy Godinez, while Brendson Ribeiro weighed 208.5 pounds — 2.5 pounds over the light heavyweight limit — for his fight with Felipe Franco. As with Bonfim, the status of both catchweight bouts remained unresolved.

On a more positive note, Saturday’s middleweight headliners both made weight cleanly. Brendan Allen came in at 186 pounds and Christian Leroy Duncan at 185 for a main event that carries genuine contender implications. Allen is looking to maintain his position near the front of the title queue, while Duncan arrives on the back of a victory over former title challenger Jared Cannonier and has the opportunity to further cement his ranking with another high-profile scalp.

The full UFC Vegas 122 card takes place on Saturday.
