Bonfim misses weight by 7.5 pounds as three fighters come in heavy at UFC Vegas 122

Ismael Bonfim tipped the scales at a startling 163.5 pounds for his lightweight bout against Francisco Prado at UFC Vegas 122, missing the 155-pound limit by 7.5 pounds in one of the more severe weight failures seen on a UFC card. Two other fighters also came in heavy at Friday’s weigh-ins in Las Vegas, though neither by as wide a margin.

Ketlen Souza was one pound over the strawweight limit of 115 pounds, weighing in at 117 for her fight against Lupita Godinez. Brendson Ribeiro missed the light heavyweight limit by 2.5 pounds, registering 208.5 pounds ahead of his contest with Felipe Franco. All three fighters face a percentage-of-purse fine if their bouts proceed as scheduled.

The main event, a five-round middleweight clash between Brendan Allen and Christian Leroy Duncan, cleared the scales without drama. Allen came in at 186 pounds — one pound inside the non-title main event allowance — while Duncan weighed exactly 185. The 12-fight card marks Duncan’s first headlining appearance in the UFC. The 31-year-old Englishman carries a five-fight win streak into the bout, the highlight of which was a decision victory over Jared Cannonier earlier this year.

Allen, the more experienced of the two headliners, will represent the stiffer test Duncan has faced in the promotion, and the Englishman’s ability to replicate his Cannonier performance against a fighter of Allen’s calibre is the central question surrounding the main event.
