Benched at PSG, Lucas Chevalier seeks exit this summer
Sidelined from Paris Saint-Germain's starting lineup since January, Lucas Chevalier has not played a single minute with PSG and will miss the World Cup. A loan move to Besiktas or Tottenham is taking shape for the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
Lucas Chevalier has not played a single match with Paris Saint-Germain since January 20 and the trip to Sporting in the Ligue des Champions league phase. Nearly six months without playing, and a confirmed absence from the World Cup: the former Lille goalkeeper finds himself at a delicate crossroads in his career.
Yet a starter at the beginning of the season, the Calais native gradually lost his place in the Paris hierarchy. Despite an impressive record in just one year in the capital, his future at PSG now seems closed. “I’m very worried for him, for his future,” journalist Régis Testelin said. “At PSG, the door is closed. A return as number one is highly unlikely. I’ve been wondering for several weeks where this guy can bounce back.”
The most likely path remains a loan. Besiktas and Tottenham have reportedly shown interest in the French international, who has just one cap. His salary — estimated at 500,000 euros per month — is however a major obstacle, with PSG likely having to cover part of the amount to facilitate the deal.
“I hope he becomes a starter. Whether it’s at Besiktas or elsewhere, I hope he finds it,” Testelin continued. “What happened can wreck a career.” At 24, Chevalier still has the margin needed to bounce back, but time is pressing: another season without regular playing time could seriously compromise his development.
