Barcola, Fernandez, Yildiz: Ten transfers that could reshape the Premier League before deadline day

The summer transfer window shuts on 1 September, and several Premier League clubs are still scrambling to complete significant business ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG winger Bradley Barcola has been one of the defining sagas of the window. The Reds have yet to submit a formal bid for the 23-year-old Frenchman, but negotiations between the clubs are ongoing. PSG are holding out for around £145m, while Liverpool are hoping to agree a fee closer to £120m. Barcola was notably absent from PSG’s squad for the French Super Cup last week, with manager Luis Enrique declining to comment on his future — a signal many at Anfield have taken as encouraging. PSG’s decision to sign wingers Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts, from Monaco and Ajax respectively, as well as forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona, suggests the club is preparing for his departure.

Enzo Fernandez remains a target for Manchester City despite Chelsea’s attempts to draw a line under speculation. The Argentine midfielder was booed on his return to Stamford Bridge following a turbulent summer that included a sending off and a defeat in the World Cup final. Chelsea set a deadline of 5pm on 14 August for bids and, with that date passed, publicly expect him to stay — but City are still anticipated to test that resolve with an offer at or near the Blues’ £120m valuation before the window closes.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have shifted focus after their pursuit of Vinicius Jr ended without a deal. The Gunners are now targeting Kenan Yildiz, the Juventus winger, as they look to add a left-sided forward before deadline day.

Elsewhere, Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa all face the added pressure of replacing outgoing stars, while Tottenham — already among the window’s bigger spenders — may not be finished either.

The window has already produced notable movement across Europe. Barcelona’s capture of Rodri and the transfers of Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson and Bruno Guimarães all made headlines during the summer. But for many clubs, particularly in the Premier League, the final days of the window could prove the most consequential.
