Leonardo Balerdi could leave Olympique de Marseille this summer, five years after his permanent transfer from Borussia Dortmund. According to Tuttosport, several major European clubs have expressed interest in the 27-year-old Argentine centre-back, starting with Atlético Madrid. Juventus Turin, AS Rome and Nottingham Forest are also mentioned.

Arriving at the Vieux-Port in 2020 on loan before being purchased for €11 million in 2021, Balerdi has climbed the ranks to the captain’s armband. His contract runs until 2028, but the new OM leadership would not oppose a departure if a convincing offer came forward. Transfermarkt currently values him at €18 million, representing a potential gain of €7 million for the club.

His time at Marseille has not been without turbulence. Despite his regularity in the starting eleven, the defender has often faced criticism from supporters due to his defensive lapses. His season also ended prematurely with a calf injury, which forced him to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup with Argentina, despite having been selected by the Albiceleste.

The combination of a management willing to sell, rising market value and confirmed European interest places Balerdi at the heart of summer transfer discussions. His future should become clearer in the coming weeks.
