Arsenal weigh Rashford loan as Evra declares Shaw's time at United 'gone'

Arsenal are weighing up a loan bid for Marcus Rashford before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, according to the Independent, with the Premier League champions having agreed to sell Gabriel Martinelli to Al Hilal. Meanwhile, Patrice Evra has urged Manchester United to move on from left-back Luke Shaw, declaring his time at the club is effectively over.

Rashford, who rejected a move to Fenerbahce earlier in the window, has been reintegrated into Michael Carrick’s squad, but speculation over his future has not subsided. Arsenal’s interest would hinge on whether United are willing to sanction a third loan departure for the forward, though the Gunners could be expected to cover the majority of his £325,000-per-week wages. Separately, Barcelona have not entirely ruled out re-signing Rashford, despite declining to make his loan move permanent last season, with TeamTalk reporting the Spanish club remain in contact with his representatives.

Arsenal’s primary attacking target, however, is Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, whose proposed dream move to Barcelona has been blocked by his club.

On the Shaw situation, former United left-back Evra was blunt in his assessment after Shaw’s performance in last weekend’s defeat at Hull. Speaking on his Kick stream, Evra said: “What I’m really disappointed about is all the back passes in that game. Luke Shaw, I love you, but it’s going to be a tough season for him. He’s been at the club for years, he’s had a lot of injuries that killed his football career. When I talk with him, he’s still traumatised by the injuries — he wouldn’t go 100 per cent into every challenge. I think his time has gone.”

Shaw, 30, is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, and United have been linked with Lewis Hall of Newcastle as a long-term target at left-back, though Newcastle have issued a firm warning that the defender is not for sale.

United have already strengthened in midfield this window, bringing in Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans, but the left-back position remains an area of concern ahead of their first home match of the season against Ipswich Town.
