Arsenal are in talks with the camp of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as the Brazilian pushes to return from an ACL injury ahead of schedule, with the Gunners eyeing a potential January transfer move, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

Rodrygo, 25, suffered the ACL tear in March and has been tentatively pencilled in for a return in January 2027 by Real Madrid’s medical staff, who are taking a cautious approach to his rehabilitation. The forward himself, however, is targeting a comeback before Christmas — a timeline that would make him available in the winter window.

Arsenal’s interest in the Brazilian is not new. Prior to his injury, Rodrygo was already among the club’s primary targets for reinforcing the left side of their attack. The Gunners also held talks with his compatriot and Real Madrid team-mate Vinicius Junior during the summer, and had previously enquired about fellow Brazilian Endrick. Of that trio, Rodrygo now appears to be the only realistic option Arsenal are actively pursuing.

Rodrygo is under contract at the Bernabéu until 2028, which gives Real Madrid considerable leverage in any negotiation. His recent output underlines why Arsenal are keen: two seasons ago he contributed 13 goals and nine assists across 50 appearances, and the campaign before that he registered 30 goal contributions in 51 games.

Arsenal did address their left flank this summer, bringing in Christos Tzolis, who has made an encouraging start with four assists in seven appearances. The club also allowed both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli to leave — departures that have thinned Mikel Arteta’s options on the wing. Beyond Tzolis and Eberechi Eze, Arsenal have limited natural left-sided attacking cover as they pursue a Premier League title defence.

Should Rodrygo meet his personal target of returning before the end of the year, Arsenal are reported to be ready to make a formal approach in January.
