Arsenal in advanced talks for Morgan Rogers as Tzolis and Trossard deals reshape squad
Arsenal have reportedly agreed a £34m deal for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis and are now in advanced negotiations over Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, as Leandro Trossard departs for Besiktas in a £17m deal.
Arsenal are pursuing a double attacking overhaul this summer, with a £34million agreement in place to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis and advanced talks under way for Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, according to reports. The moves come as Mikel Arteta prepares to defend the Premier League title ahead of a season opener against Coventry on Friday, 21 August.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has made Rogers a priority target, with negotiations described as being at an ‘advanced stage’ within the 23-year-old’s camp. Aston Villa, however, are determined to keep their key man, particularly with Champions League football secured for the 2025/26 season. Reports suggest Villa are holding out for a British-transfer record fee of £130million.
Rogers himself has been measured when asked about the speculation. “I’m not sure I’m worth all of that!” he said of the reported valuation, before adding: “Of course it’s nice to hear that from people. But I don’t let outside noise dictate me. I’m just going to keep focused, keep being me, keep being the person that got me here and keep trying to improve. I don’t really listen to stuff like that.”
While the incomings take shape, Arsenal have already confirmed their first departure from the title-winning squad. Leandro Trossard has joined Turkish club Besiktas in a permanent deal worth £17million including add-ons. The Belgian winger, 31, scored several important goals during his time at the Emirates Stadium, most notably a winner against West Ham United that proved pivotal in last season’s title race.
An official Arsenal statement confirmed the exit: “We have reached an agreement with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard. We will provide a further update once the transfer has been completed.”
With Tzolis closing in and Rogers firmly in their sights, Arteta’s side are moving quickly to reshape their attacking options before the new campaign begins.
