Hazard reveals PSG courted him every year before Real Madrid transfer
Eden Hazard has disclosed that Paris Saint-Germain approached him every season between 2012 and his 2019 transfer to Real Madrid, consistently refusing the capital club to never betray Lille.
Eden Hazard revealed that he turned down Paris Saint-Germain’s advances year after year between 2012 and his transfer to Real Madrid in 2019, stating he never considered returning to France with any club other than Lille.
“Every year I had contact with PSG. In my mind, it was very clear. I didn’t want to come back to France with any club other than LOSC,” said the former Belgium international (126 caps). The winger from La Louvière nonetheless acknowledges the growing appeal of the Paris project after the Qatari takeover of the club: “Nasser al-Khelaïfi came, there was a lot of money, PSG always had a competitive team for the Champions League.”
Despite these repeated approaches, Hazard saw only one destination to take the next step after his golden years at Chelsea: Real Madrid. Transferred in summer 2019 for an estimated €100 million, he arrived in Madrid out of shape, having gained five kilos during his holidays according to his own admission.
His four seasons at the Maison Blanche, the final years of his career, would be marked by injuries and disappointments. In October 2023, he hung up his boots at 32, leaving the impression of immense talent that never fully expressed itself in the white shirt.
