Arsenal face £85m price tag for Esposito as Balogun clause promises Juventus windfall
Arsenal have been quoted more than £85m for Inter Milan forward Pio Esposito as they search for striking reinforcements, while a potential Juventus move for former Gunner Folarin Balogun could trigger a lucrative sell-on clause.
Arsenal are facing an £85m-plus asking price for Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his forward line, with a separate development potentially bringing the club a significant transfer windfall through former academy product Folarin Balogun.
Esposito price tag emerges
Italian reports have informed Arsenal that Inter Milan value Esposito at more than £85m. The north Londoners have been casting around for attacking options in recent months, with links to Eli Junior Kroupi and Julián Álvarez underscoring the club’s desire to add a reliable centre-forward to their ranks.
The continued search appears to reflect a degree of uncertainty over Viktor Gyokeres, who has been used primarily as a substitute by Arteta, with Kai Havertz preferred as the starting option for key fixtures.
Balogun clause could deliver windfall
Arsenal could also be set to benefit financially if Balogun completes a January move to Juventus. The 25-year-old Monaco forward, who spent 15 years in Arsenal’s academy before leaving for Monaco in 2023 in a £34.3m deal, had a 17.5% sell-on clause inserted into that transfer agreement.
Balogun had been expected to join Everton in a £38.5m deal last summer, but pulled out following his deadline-day medical and returned to Monaco, where he has made just one appearance this season. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are now monitoring him as one of three potential January targets, with loan signing Nick Woltemade — who has scored just once in four appearances — leaving the Turin club concerned about their attacking options.
The size of any windfall for Arsenal would depend on the fee Juventus agree with Monaco, but a 17.5% sell-on clause on a deal in excess of £38.5m could represent a meaningful return for the Gunners.
Arteta’s immediate focus
Arsenal return to Premier League action against Leeds United at the Emirates, looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Brighton in September — their first loss of the season after winning all seven of their previous games across all competitions. A home Champions League fixture against Lille follows shortly after.
