Alex Scott launches WSL YouTube show after BBC axes Football Focus

Alex Scott has moved swiftly after the BBC axed Football Focus, launching her own Women’s Super League YouTube show, One More Word: The WSL, through her production company First Cap Productions.

Scott was the final presenter of the long-running Saturday lunchtime programme, which aired for the last time at the end of the 2024-25 season. The BBC attributed the decision to “changing audience behaviours,” and Scott acknowledged the shift: “Sometimes things change, but when this show began all those years ago, social media wasn’t a driving force, podcasts didn’t exist, and there was no instant access to information in the way there is today. Now, by the time that we go on air, the reality is that you have already seen it, debated it, and lived it across so many platforms. That shift has changed the whole industry.”

The 41-year-old has not cut ties with the BBC entirely. She remains a regular co-host of Sports Personality of the Year alongside Gabby Logan and Clare Balding, and contributed to the corporation’s World Cup coverage. Her BBC salary was listed at £205,000–£209,000 for 2024-25, placing her among the highest-paid football presenters at the corporation.

Scott’s media career has helped build an estimated net worth of £2m, supplemented by appearances on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and Strictly Come Dancing, as well as punditry work that included becoming the first female pundit on Sky Sports’ flagship Super Sunday programme. That figure sits on top of a decorated playing career in which she earned 140 caps for England and won multiple club honours with Arsenal.

Off the pitch, Scott has lived in a £1.5m London property since March 2021, which she now shares with her partner, singer Jess Glynne. The couple got together in 2023 after meeting at a club in London. The home features a gym, a landscaped garden with grey decking, and a cosy outdoor seating area.
