10-man Bayern Munich held to 3-3 draw by Norwegian side Viking despite Kane's double
Harry Kane scored twice, including a penalty, but Bayern Munich were pegged back to a 3-3 draw by Viking in Norway after Michael Olise's red card proved costly. Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon netted his first Champions League goal as Barcelona came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul.
Harry Kane rescued Bayern Munich from what looked like a humiliating defeat, only for 10-man Bayern to be denied a Champions League win by Norwegian side Viking, who snatched a 3-3 draw in Stavanger.
Viking tore into the Bundesliga giants from the first whistle, taking a two-goal lead inside the opening 45 minutes. Gianni Stensness headed in after just 71 seconds, and Peter Christiansen slotted home to make it 2-0 at half-time. Kane then took matters into his own hands, converting a penalty in the 54th minute before levelling with a composed header on the hour.
Luis Diaz’s tap-in appeared to have sealed a Bayern win, but the tie turned again when Michael Olise was dismissed for a second yellow card shortly afterwards. Substitute Herman Haugen punished the numerical disadvantage immediately, heading in a stunning equaliser at the far post to earn Viking a famous point. Olise’s red card rules him out of Bayern’s next Champions League fixture, a home tie against Premier League champions Arsenal.
In Istanbul, Barcelona recovered from a first-half scare to beat Galatasaray 4-1. Aleksey Batrakov put the Turkish side ahead before the break, but Hansi Flick’s team responded swiftly through Joao Cancelo just before half-time. Fermin Lopez put Barcelona in front five minutes after the restart, and Anthony Gordon — on loan from Newcastle United — marked his first Champions League goal for the club to extend the lead. Karim Adeyemi wrapped up the victory in the 65th minute with a low finish into the bottom corner.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, Club Brugge produced a remarkable result, winning 4-3 away at Inter Milan. RB Leipzig edged PSV Eindhoven 1-0, and Villarreal were comfortable 3-1 winners at home to Napoli. Sporting Lisbon claimed a 2-0 victory at Lens, while Azerbaijani side Sabah recorded their first ever Champions League win, beating Slavia Prague 2-0 at home.
