Zidane sees himself in Doué and pays him a strong tribute at press conference
When announcing his second squad as France manager, Zinédine Zidane praised Désiré Doué's qualities with a rare personal comparison: "I see myself a little bit in him."
Zinédine Zidane publicly drew a parallel between his own trajectory and that of Désiré Doué on Friday during the press conference accompanying the announcement of his second squad as France manager. A rare statement that confirmed the growing place of the 21-year-old Paris player in the selector’s plans.
“What Désiré has been doing for a while now is magnificent. He’s a young player with a lot of talent and he listens. What I like is that he has this desire to progress,” Zidane said. Before going further: “I like what he does on the pitch, but I see myself a little bit in him too because I had this desire to progress, to listen to the senior players. And that’s what he does very well.”
The comparison is not insignificant. Like Zidane at his beginnings, the former Rennes player has an extensive technical range and the ability to play in several attacking positions. The manager also clarified his preference for the left flank, where Doué can create chances or cut inside onto his right foot.
Called up for the second consecutive time under Zidane, the Paris Saint-Germain player will have the opportunity to confirm himself in the upcoming France matches: against Italy on November 12, then against Turkey on November 15.
