Gouiri lifts the veil on Genesio: "calm but you shouldn't mess with him"
Questioned about his coach at OM, Amine Gouiri paints a portrait of Bruno Genesio as both close to his players and inflexible when his instructions are not followed.
Amine Gouiri has described Bruno Genesio as a coach with two sides: accessible and positive on a daily basis, but firm and uncompromising when his demands are not met.
The international Algerian striker, who arrived at Marseille this summer, gave a precise description of his coach’s character. “He is calm but yeah (you shouldn’t push him). He is very positive, as a person, he likes to joke around with everyone, but you shouldn’t mess with him, and if he makes decisions, he might not back down from them,” confided the former Rennes player.
Gouiri also stressed Genesio’s tactical rigor. “When you don’t do things the way he wants, he comes down hard,” he added, emphasizing that the closeness maintained with the squad does not erase the coach’s authority.
Arrived at Marseille in a delicate context, the former Lyon coach appears to have quickly convinced players, management and supporters. The portrait Gouiri paints of him confirms an image of a coach who relies on human connection without ever sacrificing demands.
