Man on railway tracks blocks Laval in station; club flies to Saint-Étienne on private jet
A serious incident at Laval railway station on Friday forced Stade lavallois to cancel its train journey to Saint-Étienne. The Mayenne club ultimately chartered a private plane to play its Ligue 2 match against ASSE on Saturday evening.
A man threw himself onto the railway tracks at Laval station on Friday around 12:30 p.m., severely disrupting Stade lavallois’s preparations before its trip to Saint-Étienne for Matchday 12 of Ligue 2, Saturday at 8 p.m. at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
The Laval delegation, which was waiting for its train to reach Forez, found itself blocked on the platforms after the immediate evacuation of the station. Emergency services quickly intervened at the scene. The incident caused an interruption of rail traffic in both directions.
The club initially considered taking a second train scheduled for 3:30 p.m., but this option proved impractical: Stade lavallois could not obtain enough seats to transport its twenty players, staff members and executives.
Faced with this logistical impasse, the Tango completely reorganized their plans. The players completed their training session in Mayenne on Friday, before taking a private plane Saturday morning to reach Saint-Étienne on the day of the match.
Despite this setback, the match between ASSE and Laval is maintained at the scheduled time.
