Zidane recalls Thuram and names Pagis for first time with France
Zinédine Zidane unveiled his second squad list as France head coach for the UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and Turkey. Marcus Thuram makes his return, while Pablo Pagis (Paris FC) receives his first-ever call-up.
Zinédine Zidane announced a 23-player squad for the final two UEFA Nations League autumn fixtures: France-Turkey in Bordeaux and the trip to Milan to face Italy. Compared to September’s gathering, the list includes several notable returns and a maiden call-up.
The big surprise is Pablo Pagis. The Paris FC striker, never previously called up to the France squad, is the only genuine newcomer to a selection otherwise reshaped by injuries. Ousmane Dembélé, Esteban Lepaul and Maghnes Akliouche are all ruled out, paving the way for Marcus Thuram’s return after missing Zidane’s first squad gathering.
In defence, Maxence Lacroix joins William Saliba on the injury list: Lény Yoro therefore completes the defensive sector. Jules Koundé’s absence allows Malo Gusto to reclaim his place in the right flank, while Andy Diouf is retained in the group.
In midfield, Aurélien Tchouaméni’s return is the other major news. The Real Madrid midfielder missed the first gathering due to an injury that had disrupted his season start. Lucas Da Cunha, an impressive revelation in September, is logically recalled. Warren Zaïre-Emery keeps his place, unlike Manu Koné who is not retained.
In goal, Mike Maignan and Guillaume Restes are again present. Robin Risser reclaims his place ahead of Jean Butez, who no longer features in the squad.
