Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Rob Edwards after seven months in charge, during which the club were relegated from the Premier League, finishing bottom of the table.
Edwards was appointed in November following the dismissal of Vitor Pereira, with the club already in serious danger of going down. He won only five of his 30 games at Molineux, leaving Wolves to face a rebuild in the Championship rather than the top-flight recovery the club had hoped for.
Wolves paid Middlesbrough £4m to secure Edwards, who left the Yorkshire club when they were top of the Championship and chasing promotion. The 43-year-old had been tasked with steadying a struggling side, but the results never came.
Despite his dismissal, Edwards did play a significant role in shaping Wolves’ plans for life in the second tier. He was instrumental in securing the signings of free agent Kieran Trippier from Newcastle and Raul Jimenez from Fulham — two high-profile additions intended to anchor a promotion push — though he will not now be the man to lead that campaign.
Former Gil Vicente head coach Cesar Peixoto, who has managed exclusively in Portugal, has been linked with the vacant position as Wolves look to appoint a new manager ahead of the Championship season.
