Jaissle declares he is 'in love' with Hall as Newcastle reject Man Utd and seal new deal

Lewis Hall is poised to commit his future to Newcastle United until June 2031, with manager Matthias Jaissle publicly declaring his admiration for the left-back after the club firmly rejected Manchester United’s advances during the summer transfer window.

Hall had been United’s number one target at left-back, with manager Michael Carrick seeking competition for the injury-prone Luke Shaw. Newcastle, however, made clear they would not sell at any price — a stance that carried extra weight given the club had already parted with Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes in recent windows.

“Without speaking about his contract, I can just say that I’m in love with what I’ve seen so far from him,” Jaissle said ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League fixture against Leeds on Monday. “It’s an amazing player with huge potential still, and this makes me so happy to, hopefully, have him here for the next years in the long term. He’s fitting so good to this identity, how we want to play football, and again, he’s doing an excellent job.”

The 22-year-old, who joined Newcastle in a £28 million move from Chelsea two years ago, has played every minute of the club’s matches so far this season and has registered assists in consecutive games — a 2-2 Premier League draw with Bournemouth and a 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Millwall.

Jaissle also welcomed the return from injury of Tino Livramento, who came off the bench for 45 minutes against Millwall. “I’m happy for him that he got now 45 minutes on a high level against a strong opponent in difficult circumstances,” the manager said. “It’s never easy coming back from a long-term injury then performing already mature whilst physically already on a good level. I’m also satisfied and happy that he was dealing with the 45 minutes really good.”

United’s left-back problem remains unresolved heading into the January window. With Shaw the only senior specialist in the position and teenager Harry Amass not yet considered ready for regular first-team duty, Carrick has been forced to consider Patrick Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui as cover. The urgency of the situation was underlined when Shaw missed a training session to manage his workload ahead of a congested fixture schedule.
