Wirtz committed to Liverpool despite Bayern Munich and Chelsea interest, reports claim
Florian Wirtz has no intention of leaving Liverpool, according to reports, despite persistent interest from Bayern Munich and Chelsea. The £116m signing from Bayer Leverkusen is said to be fully committed to Anfield ahead of a potential 2027 move.
Florian Wirtz has decided he wants to remain at Liverpool, according to reports, dismissing speculation linking the German midfielder with moves to Bayern Munich and Chelsea as early as 2027.
The 23-year-old joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million in 2025 and has started all nine of the club’s Premier League and Champions League fixtures this season, contributing three assists across 739 minutes of football.
German football account ‘Space’ on X reported that neither Wirtz nor his father and agent Hans-Joachim Wirtz have any interest in entertaining a departure. “Both remain unequivocally committed to Liverpool and the mystique of Anfield, where Florian intends to carve his name into the history of football’s greatest institution,” the account wrote, as relayed by TEAMtalk. “A move to Stamford Bridge is simply not on the agenda.”
The report also addressed speculation that former Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, now at Chelsea, had been hoping to reunite with Wirtz in London. According to ‘Space’, Bayern representatives have repeatedly floated the idea of a return to Germany, but those overtures have been firmly rebuffed.
Wirtz’s commitment comes during a mixed start to his Liverpool career. He assisted Victor Munoz’s equaliser in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brentford’s G-Tech Community Stadium, a performance some have pointed to as a turning point — though the contribution came against a side reduced to ten and then nine men, and his created chances carried limited statistical weight.
In the Premier League this season, Wirtz is yet to register a single Opta-defined big chance created, and his nine chances combined for just 0.19 expected assists (xA). Much of his chance creation has come through back passes to midfielders attempting long-range efforts rather than incisive through balls.
For context, in 2025-26 Wirtz created five big chances across the campaign — a figure that trailed Cody Gakpo (10), Mohamed Salah (11), and Dominik Szoboszlai (14). Increasing that tally will be central to his development at the club.
Despite those statistical concerns, Wirtz’s public stance — and that of his camp — is unambiguous: he is going nowhere.
